Academy Award Nominee
Composite Photographs

To publicize the television broadcasts of the Academy Award ceremonies (which began with the 25th Awards), the Academy compiled photographs of nominees into composite images and offered them to the media. These single photographs (usually measuring 8″ x 10″ or 7″ x 9″) could easily be mailed or wired to newspapers and magazines for use in stories about the ceremonies. In recent years, these physical images have been replaced by digital ones down- loaded from the Internet (and require press credentials to obtain). Unfortunately, the Webmaster’s collection of these composites is incomplete, but those that we have reveal an important facet of Academy Award history. This section will continue to expanded as new images are discovered.
