THE CAST

ERNEST BORGNINE

Oscar-winning Ernest Borgnine plays Barney Yale, the private detective who, for a fee, does a little job to insure the winning of an Oscar by Frankie Fane.

Though it was the performance and Oscar for “Marty” that catapulted him into the small and select ranks of “super stars,” Borgnine was already a well-trained (Randall School of Dramatic Arts in Hartford, Conn.) and seasoned actor with little theatre, touring company, and Broadway (“Mrs. McThing”) experience when he came to motion pictures for a featured role in “The Whistle At Eaton Falls.” He subsequently gained fame as “Fatso” Judson, the brutal stockade sergeant in “From Here To Eternity.” Television audiences today know him as a different type in another branch of the armed services, Lt. Commander Quinton McHale in “McHale’s Navy.”

One of Borgnine’s most recent motion pictures is “The Flight of the Phoenix.”
