7. EXT. ROAD – DAY
LAUREL is seen along side the road trying to hitch a ride.
HYMIE (V.O.)
The price we got for the car barely gave us enough to post bail, which we promptly jumped, and a few bucks to spare.
A truck stops and Laurel gets in the passenger seat. As the truck pulls away, Frankie and Hymie are seen jumping into the back of the truck.
HYMIE (V.O.)
Laurel wanted to take a stab at New York, so we headed for the big town by bus and thumb. We finally made it.

8. INT. CHEAP NIGHT CLUB – DAY
LAUREL is finishing an audition dance on the club’s runway. The bar’s owner, MR. GROBARD, HYMIE and FRANKIE are watching.
GROBARD
(to Hymie)
The girls work five sets between nine and three a.m.
HYMIE
Miss Laurel works with special music.
GROBARD
Miss Laurel? You her personal booker, huh? Who’s he, a chauffeur?
HYMIE
Frankie’s the spieler.
GROBARD
I ain’t hirin’ a package deal here. I don’t make a dime in this hole to begin with. I got my own spieler, I don’t need no second-rate spieler. She wants to work, she works alone.
HYMIE
Now wait a minute Mr. Grobard. Frankie here is great. He can hold any kind of audience down or warm it up. Whatever you need.
GROBARD
Sure, this ain’t some country barn. He gets scratched.
FRANKIE
Forget it Hymie. Like the man says this place is a hole. Who needs it?
GROBARD
You got a pretty feisty mouth.
FRANKIE
And you got a glass head I can see right through it. That’s how I know you’re stupid.
He walks out.
GROBARD
I don’t want him around here. He stays away or she don’t work.
HYMIE
Now wait a minute Mr. Grobard . . .
LAUREL
Don’t say anything, Hymie, don’t say a word. Mr. Grobard, when do I start work?
GROBARD
Tonight. Be here eight-thirty.
